I was in a motorcycle accident in 2003, which resulted in my left leg getting amputated. I had my amputation at Hurley Hospital in Flint, and I went to a prosthetic company that I was referred to by the hospital due to their contract.
I was very unhappy with my services at this prosthetic company. The place was an absolute nightmare. They only cared about money and left me with a leg that had a terrible fit. I had to use an ace bandage to help keep my leg on and I was very displeased with the care I was receiving.
I knew I needed to make a change and find the right place for me. This is when I had talked to one of my co-workers, Sheryl McCormick, who was also an amputee, and she highly recommended Bremer Prosthetics.
Switching to Bremer Prosthetics was the best decision I could have made. Everyone at the office is very caring, knowledgeable, and they do whatever it takes to be sure you have the proper fit. They complete all adjustments in house which is extremely helpful as they do not have to send it out somewhere, leaving you without a leg while the work is being done.
This is key as I am very active and need my leg for daily activities. I am back to doing all the things I enjoy and have not let the amputation stop me. I go kayaking, biking, hunting, fishing, downhill skiing, working on cars, and working as an electrician.
I can’t stress enough to make sure you are going to a place that is best for you and that you’re getting the care you deserve.
