Patient Spotlight: Mary P.
Mary P. is a Saginaw native with 3 children and 5 grandchildren. Last year she underwent bypass surgery and during the surgery a blood clot formed in her leg. Doctors worked to remove it during the surgery but ultimately her family had to make a tough decision for her: Her life or her leg.
When Mary awoke from the surgery she found that she was an above knee amputee and that life would never be the same.
“At first I was very upset,” says Mary, “However after I met Scott and Jared from Bremer Prosthetics I felt much better because they assured me that I would walk again.
Knowing she would walk again helped Mary keep a positive attitude which was very important to her.
“I had to stay positive and upbeat for my family’s sake,” says Mary. “I didn’t want them to feel sad or guilty about the decision they had to make regarding my leg.”
Mary is very active and loves to travel, cook and work in the yard and garden. When asked what she considers to be her greatest accomplishment she is quick to say, “I’m walking! I can go out on my own. I never thought I would get to this point.”
